Government Museum

The first Government-sponsored Museum in the country opened in Chennai in 1851. Government Museum is located on Pantheon Road in Egmore, Chennai. Established in 1857, Government Museum is one of the best museums of India. Government Museum originally belonged to the Pantheon Committee that comprised of a group of British citizens that were in charge of improving the social life of the British living in Chennai at that time.
